Discover Kostas Grill

If you’re driving through Tuckerton and craving hearty Mediterranean flavors with a local twist, Kostas Grill at 161 E Main St, Tuckerton, NJ 08087, United States, is the kind of spot you’ll want to bookmark. I stopped by on a breezy Friday evening after hearing several neighbors rave about their gyros and seafood platters, and within minutes of scanning the menu, I understood why this place keeps earning such enthusiastic reviews.

The first thing that stands out is how approachable everything feels. The dining room isn’t flashy, but it’s welcoming-simple tables, friendly staff, and the comforting aroma of grilled meats drifting from the kitchen. You can tell the grill is the heart of the operation. Watching the cooks work behind the counter, carefully turning skewers and checking the char on souvlaki, reminded me of traditional Greek tavernas I’ve visited. That method-high heat, quick sear, resting the meat before slicing-locks in juices and builds that smoky flavor people crave.

Their menu is packed with Mediterranean staples: gyros shaved fresh from the spit, chicken and pork souvlaki, lamb platters, and crisp Greek salads topped with feta. On my visit, I ordered the classic gyro platter with a side of lemon potatoes. The meat was tender, well-seasoned, and balanced with cool tzatziki. According to the National Restaurant Association, diners increasingly look for globally inspired comfort food, and Greek cuisine consistently ranks among the top ethnic food preferences in the U.S. That tracks here-every table around me seemed to have at least one gyro or grilled platter.

Seafood also has a strong presence, which makes sense given Tuckerton’s coastal setting. I spoke with a staff member who explained that they prioritize fresh ingredients and source locally when possible. While I couldn’t independently verify every supplier, the grilled shrimp tasted bright and clean, not overly fishy, suggesting solid sourcing practices. Freshness matters, especially with seafood, and organizations like the FDA emphasize proper cold storage and handling to maintain safety and flavor. From what I observed, the kitchen appeared organized and efficient, with food moving quickly but carefully.

One family seated nearby shared their experience with me. They’ve been coming in every Sunday after church for over a year. The father mentioned that the consistency keeps them loyal. In the restaurant world, consistency is everything. A Harvard Business Review analysis once highlighted that repeat customers drive a significant portion of restaurant revenue. Seeing returning guests greeted by name reinforced that this diner-style grill understands the value of relationships.

Portion sizes here are generous without being wasteful. If you’re hungry, the combo platters easily satisfy. If you’re pacing yourself, wraps and salads offer lighter choices. The kids’ menu makes it family-friendly, and takeout orders moved steadily while I dined in, which suggests strong local demand. Online reviews frequently mention fast service and reasonable pricing, and based on my bill, I’d agree. For a full platter and drink, the cost felt fair compared to other casual dining options in Ocean County.

What also impressed me was the straightforwardness of the experience. No gimmicks. No overcomplicated fusion experiments. Just well-prepared grilled meats, fresh vegetables, warm pita, and classic sides like rice and fries. That clarity builds trust. When a restaurant does simple things well-clean dining space, accurate orders, attentive but not intrusive service-it earns credibility naturally.

Of course, like any busy local favorite, peak hours can mean a short wait, especially on weekends. Still, the turnover is efficient, and the staff keeps things moving. If you’re planning a group visit, calling ahead might save time.

For anyone exploring restaurants along Main Street or searching for dependable Mediterranean food in Tuckerton, this spot delivers flavor, consistency, and value. Between the welcoming atmosphere, thoughtfully prepared menu items, and strong community following, it’s easy to see why so many locals consider it a go-to grill for both quick lunches and relaxed family dinners.

  • Everything was delicious. Grace was our delightful server. She was warm and welcoming as it was our first time eating there. Its byob, so a nice gentleman offered to have the wine opened before we started our order. The octopus was fabulous, tender and flavorful and the special appetizer of meatballs were also good. My husband got the feta and tomatoes over orzo it was enough for 2 and I had to stop him from stuffing himself ( it was that good). I got the veal stuffed with haloumi oh my goodness, oh my goodness. It was crazy good. Never mind i had garlic breath for a whole day afterwards it was worth it. We will be going back next time we are in town.

  • Pleasantly surprised by the quality of this South Jersey Greek outpost. Cavernous but comfortable, with a nice flow of local clientele. We were quickly seated, and well tended to throughout by the staff, its a BYOB and many of the tables had bottles on them, we settled for Cokes that were refilled without extra charge. We began with an excellent and warm bowl of avgolemono, lemony and flavorful, we moved on to the gyro platter which was among the best I ever had, it was accessible by a delicious Greek salad, classically made with feta cheese and olives, excellent french fries came with the dish. We finished up our meal with a piece of spectaclular baklava, fresh, flaky and loaded with honey and nuts. We were glad that we were able to check this place out and can’t wait to come back yo try some of their other Greek and Mediterranean specialties.

  • On our way to Long Beach, New Jersey, we found this restaurant and from the moment we walked in the door, we were promptly greeted by our server, Bryle who is an excellent front of the house person, was also very kind and knowledgeable. The lemon chicken and sampler are amazing as was the complementary fried chick peas and ice cream.

  • A wonderful family-owned and run Greek restaurant that has never disappointed us. The food is always fresh, seasoned and cooked perfectly. We normally order a lamb gyro platter with orzo and salad to go, and that is what we ordered tonight. As always, everything was delicious. The good folks running the show are always kind and gracious and are more than deserving of your business. We highly recommend them for your next dinner.

  • I don't even know how to start this one... my mouth is watering already WOW! This place is seriously a must-visit if you are in the area. Even if you're not, make it a point to come here. This food was absolutely astounding & I will be back soon. I would much prefer the complimentary fried chick peas that they present here over the free bread you might get elsewhere. We started with their Greek Mac N Cheese & it was much creamier & more flavorful than most Mac N Cheeses I had in my lifetime. I never heard of Kefalograviera cheese which is why I ordered this in the first place & I am so glad I did. We also had a side salad with Feta cheese & again, this cheese was extremely tasty & much better than any store bought Feta. Our entrees were the Spicy Kostas Pork Gyro & the Fried Calamari Platter. Both were reasonably priced & came with a lot of food. The food was so good that we ordered more food to go to bring home to our family. This is the best new place that we have been to this year.

  • the kind of place that quietly saves the day more than anyone admits. You walk in thinking you will grab one thing and somehow walk out with everything you forgot you needed all week. It has that chaos charm. Aisles packed tight. Shelves loaded with every oddball item imaginable. Cleaning supplies. Snacks. Socks. Phone chargers. Stuff you did not even know you were missing. And it is all right there without the crowd, without the big store hassle, and without prices that make you regret being alive. The real power move with Dollar General is convenience. Small town. Quick stop. In and out in minutes. No drama. No hunt for parking. You grab what you need, maybe toss in a guilty snack or two, and you are back on the road. It is the store version of a reliable friend. Not fancy. Not glamorous. Just there when you need it and always doing the job.

  • Great Greek restaurant serving all of the foods you know. Servers are attentive and make sure you have clean dishes for the courses. The lamb burger is definitely a try. Great selection of appetizers along with the Greek flaming cheese, served with pita. Kosta salad is another great choice with great lemon flavor. They are BYOB, so bring your favorite wine. The owner visits the tables throughout your meal.
